The 5 Obstacles of Architecture. Chapter 1: The Door

This first movie produced by FORA from a series dedicated to “The 5 Obstacles of Architecture” focuses on the door as a device sectioning public and private, in order to illustrate a wider apparatus that takes place between preparation and performance.
This movie tells the story of a journey that starts in the urban space and ends on stage. Through this journey, the main character goes through different scales of spaces gradually decreasing until reaching the final obstacle: the door.
This spatial journey is accompanied by the transformation of the main character: in the urban public space, he is a man – when entering the heterotopic space of the nightclub he transforms into a Woman.
The door functions as a device regulating the flow between the production space – the dressing room – and the performance space – the stage. When the threshold of the door is crossed, the transformation of the main character is validated by the audience.
